WHAT UX IS NOT
UX (User Experience) is not just 2 letters that a graphic or web designer can add to their job title to double their salary (but they do). The UX person must perform, or have access to, quality user research to be able to claim that they are a UX professional.

UX is not just UI (User interface design) - UI is a small subsection of UX and only refers to the interface, so UX is far more wide-reaching than UI

UX is not just usability - this is also a small subsection of UX - e.g. add a date selector instead of text entry on a date field

UX is not coding - coders or developers are experts in their own right - a coder needs to keep up with modern coding standards, they will not have enough time or focus to do UX properly (and vice versa).
UX professionals usually create clickable prototypes which are used to communicate the design, test it with users for issues before the design continues in the process. Axure is used to quickly mock up functional designs which are then exported to HTML at the click of a button. This is a much faster approach than hand-coding a prototype in HTML, yet many people in the industry are still unaware of this.

UX is not just about delivering wireframes - UX people are not gods and we can't see into every users head, we need UX RESEARCH to provide us with scientific insights into the needs of users.
Without the solid foundations of USER RESEARCH and BUSINESS ANALYSIS the resulting designs are based on hearsay and are very unlikely to solve a useful problem for your users.
If you only have budget for ONE thing, do the User Research, it will probably redesign your business and product offerings
